Jesuits Respond to New Chevron Human Rights Policy

The Jesuit Conference of the United States said it was encouraged by last night’s first public release of Chevron Corporation’s new Policy 520 on human rights. This breakthrough follows six years of shareholder dialog with one of the world’s largest energy and oil companies. As a result of this announcement, a coalition of Jesuit groups and other religious congregations are withdrawing a 2010 shareholder resolution petitioning the development of a corporate human rights policy. Thousands Expected for San Diego Clean-Up Event

From 8 AM to noon April 10, 2010, over three thousand Rock Church volunteers are expected to paint, repair, weed, landscape and remove trash in the Balboa Park and Encanto areas of San Diego as well as at the Jackie Robinson YMCA. Pastor Miles McPherson, a former San Diego Charger, founder of the Rock Church, and author of “DO Something: Make Your Life Count,” has issued a call to action to the more than 12,000 people who attend the Rock. Sisters of Bon Secours Plays Active Role in Bringing Healthcare to Regions of Peru

The Sisters of Bon Secours, a Catholic women’s religious community, is playing an active role through the ministry of Bon Secours Health System Inc. in improving the infant mortality rate of various Peruvian communities. By studying the region’s most outstanding needs, the Sisters of Bon Secours have collaborated with Bon Secours Health System Inc., CHRISTUS Health, Caritas del Peru and the Catholic Medical Mission Board to create a $1.1 meg initiative, Unidos Contra La Mortalidad Infantil (United Against Infant Mortality (UAIM)), which will quell the increasing infant mortality rate that plagues the country.
